Botanical Gardens – Singapore

My primary reason for visiting Singapore was to go this Botanic Garden – which did not disappoint… ‘The largest display of tropical orchids in the world’ just for starters.

These were in a large shade-house…

Oh the colours!

And outside were large garden beds of certain varieties. I had never seen garden beds of orchids before. Although they weren’t in flower I was hugely impressed just at the thought. I peaked over a fence into the ‘Orchid Farm’ (!!!) which nearly blew my mind.

Also saw this amazing frangipani that had been mixed/bred with this other flower – it really does grow out of the centre of the frangipani… wow.

& outside the Botanical Gardens…

Below is a vertical garden in a downtown office building.

There seemed to be a lot of buildings integrating areas of greenery such as this small chunk in the middle of this one…

Gardens by the Bay has also been on my list of great gardens to visit and was even better than I had imagined. The tropical greenhouse is of a monumental scale and full of drifting mists and spectacular examples of many species on display.

Beautiful moss…

Weird Lego exhibition in part of the garden with models of rafflesia and other carnivorous plants. Kind of bizarre…

& back to real plants…

& more orchids…

I don’t like heights and got a bit spooked out on this walkway. Massive structure…

Back outside the greenhouse, still at Gardens by the Bay massive tree-like sculptural structures that get lit up by night. There is a restaurant up in one of them that was closed the day I was there as it was too windy…

  1. Honestly we prefer the Botanical gardens over the Gardens by the bay.
But both can be great places to spend an entire day or at least a half day if one do not like the humid sweaty feeling!

    • The Botanical Gardens were my favourite too… I went there twice during the week I was in Singapore last year.
Also had a truly excellent meal at a restaurant someplace in the middle.
      Thanks for commenting!

      • Oh yes the restaurants there are quite few. But we understood they will be moving now because they are reusing those places. But it will still be free for all to enjoy
